CARR CHAPEL
A weightless or floating quality characterises this only religious structure by architect Mies van der Rohe. Exposure of all working components inherent to the success of their respective forms, Mies' work is presented with utmost transparency.
This movement intervention presents vertical dance with its parallel characteristics of a sense of weightlessness and its transparency of means. The necessary corporeal agility and strength, as well as intricate techniques with the apparatus, create a quality of movement that seemingly dissolves the dancer's ordinary relationship with gravity.
Commissioned by the Mies van der Rohe Society, this intervention was a part of Rethinking Spiritual Spaces, at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
